Biography
Dr. Heshmati graduated with distinction in electronics, telecommunications and computer engineering from the University of Bradford and earned her PhD in electrical engineering (telecommunications) from the University of Leeds. Her research programme is titled "Information sensor networks: from data collection to networking, fusion and analysis".
She founded the Network Science and Technology group at the School's inception, designed three new interdisciplinary master's programmes, headed the group from 2010 to 2015 and served as the School's international-affairs advisor until 2017. As research deputy of the Applied Intelligent Systems Research Institute she led the national "Smart Customs Cargo and Transit System" project.
She established the Complex Networks Analysis Laboratory in 2012, which she still directs, and has authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers.
